General Sizing: Slightly Big
Love it. hat quality is great, very supple sweatband, super comfortable right from the start.
Hat does run very slightly big, but not nearly big enough to jump a size down
Definitely plan on getting the Stone color version for summer wear
Pros: Durable, Value, Quality Construction, Comfortable, Great Fit, Attractive Design, Quality Material

About the fur blend...
I have a Portage in the Stone color and it was described as being a "buffalo fur blend". I like it a lot. The buffalo fur blend seems to hold up well here in the wet Pacific Northwest. Now I'm interested in a darker one. But the black colored Portage is described as being only a "fur blend". They're both Portage hats. Are they really made of two different kinds of fur blends? (or has there been an error in the description?) If there is indeed a difference in the fur blends, what is that difference? And will it hold up as well in the rain as the buffalo fur blend does? Thanks.
This appears to be an error in the description, as both hats are from the American Buffalo Collection from Stetson, and are both made of a buffalo fur blend. ( I own both, so I was able to put them right next to each other and check)
This series of hats is a great choice for the area, as they hold up well against rain, but just like any other steam shaped hat made of buffalo, beaver, or any other kind of fur, the rain here will eventually cause the hat to deform, and droop. you can protect against this by using a rain repellent, and you can also send the hat back to stetson to be reshaped when it finally begins to droop too much.

Most boot polish manufacturers make a dark polish for black and dark colored boots, rather than polishes in individual colors and it will be noted on the packaging. Make sure to use dark polish, as anything else can potentially discolor the boot

Man made leather is fake, or synthetic leather, not tanned hide. It is also known as faux leather.

Do the felt western hats shrink
While fur/felt hats will shape themselves to a wearers head over time, they dont usually shink much. The best bet for a perfect fitting hat is to take it to someone to have it steam-fitted, however this cannot shrink a hat very much either. Some folks also place a strip of material inside the sweat band of a hat to snug them up slightly

what is the x's on the hats such as 2X or 4X what does this mean
The "X" rating on a hat is a general quality rating. The higher the number of Xs the more fur / better quality of fur is used in the hat. The amount and quality of fur in a hat affects the durability and usually the price.
