I bought these as a gift, so I cannot write as the end user. I can, however, say that I am impressed with the quality, appearance, and likely comfort.
I wish my Noconas had the gel footbed these have: I expect the comfort is superior.
Pros: Value, Quality Construction, Comfortable, Attractive Design

Is "deertan" real leather?

Deertan is 3-4 ounce cowhide that is tanned soft like deer hide.
